Andrea Poggio is a Milan-based singer-songwriter who has built a unique bridge between traditional Italian songcraft and edgy electronic pop. At first glance he looks like some kind of modern one-man Kraftwerk, enhancing the electropop of the German pioneers with neo-psychedelic sprinkles of sound, adding a retro kind of delivery full of Italian charm as the cherry on top.
“Il nuovo mondo” is the first single taken from his second album, due out in 2023 on La Tempesta. It is a political song driven by the contrast between tight, claustrophobic verses (where the narrator is “hanging from a ledge,” close to falling into the “immaterial void”) and radiant, beaming choruses (reflecting the triumphal march of a sort of neoliberalism that leaves no room for doubt or hesitation).
The track was recorded between Bristol and Milan by Ali Chant (PJ Harvey, Perfume Genius and Yard Act) and Federico Altamura, and features contributions from many people in the Milan music scene, including Adele Altro (Any Other).
