This is already our third poster, and we love to see a new design every month. This time our designer is Julia Boehme a.k.a. Studio Goof.

Julia Boehme lives as an artist and illustrator in Leipzig (Germany) and likes to draw friendly characters that she places in all sorts of adventures while using different analogue techniques and mediums for her pictures, stories, gig posters or objects. They often turn out personal and poetic, often based on experiences, travels or playful reminiscences or homages to historic works and musical pieces that inspire her – processed in a comic way. She has mostly self-published her books or prints in small handprinted risography or silkscreen-print editions and takes part in exhibitions. When she doesn’t draw, she works as a graphic designer and printmaking teacher for kids and is also part of experimental-pop project ‚Mellie‘.

Hi, I’m Anita.

With my company, brighter agency, I organize concerts in Berlin and tours across Europe and the UK for independent artists from all over the world.

I chose the name brighter because I want to support underrepresented artists and give them the visibility they deserve. In other words: I aim to create a safe space for everyone and everything that deserves to shine brighter.

This is the third year of running Brighter as my full-time job. Things are going well, but the world around me is becoming scarier and more unpredictable. Concert production comes with a lot of financial risk: production costs and general costs are rising, I want to pay everyone involved fairly, and this means small profit margins for me. At the same time, many people have less disposable income to spend on live music.

That’s why I’m starting this Patreon: to create a more secure and steady foundation while I continue building Brighter in a sustainable way. By supporting here, you’re not only helping me: you’re directly supporting the artists who perform at brighter shows, and the guest artists I’ll invite to design a monthly poster that I’ll share exclusively with patrons.

There is so much that we could do with your support!

In 2023 I organized 6 concerts in Berlin as brighter agency. In 2024, that number grew to 15 and this year they will be 21! But there is so much risk that comes with it.

For me, brighter agency is more than just a concert promoter or booking agency. Brighter focuses on FLINTA* artists, emerging artists, and promoting values of inclusion and accessibility at every event. It’s a way to change the music industry from within.

We work with artists from across Europe and beyond, and I love hearing languages other than english on stage! So far we’ve worked with bands from the USA, Australia, Malta, Iceland, Italy, Serbia, the Netherlands, and more.

Keeping this diversity alive also means we don’t simply follow industry trends. But it also means we can’t always make artistic choices completely freely: we have to find a balance between what inspires us and what will sell enough tickets to make a show possible.

With your support brighter agency will be able to:

  • Organize more concerts, including smaller, more intimate shows

  • Keep ticket prices affordable (we already have a sliding scale system in place, which I’ll explain more in an upcoming post)

  • Pay musicians a fair fee, not only the main artists but also the support bands who are an essential part of the community

  • Collaborate with more visual artists to design posters for our shows (right now, small show budgets can’t cover this)

  • Organize special events

Our first poster is designed by Linus Kallin. You might recognize his style from the fantastic poster for Jeffrey Lewis he designed for us earlier this year. He’s also the mastermind behind the band Dusty Houseplants (maybe you saw them playing with Wishy and Crow Baby at Neue Zukunft last year) and he also makes beautiful videos (did you check out “It Keeps Happening” of Matching Outfits or “Another Try” of Blumes?).

Ciao a tutti,

qui Anita. Scrivo per presentarvi la pagina di Patreon per la mia agenzia brighter agency. Mi piacerebbe moltissimo ricevere il vostro supporto (già con una piccolissima somma!).

Se non ci conosciamo: piacere! E fammi spiegare in due parole cosa faccio e perché mi serve il tuo supporto.

Io organizzo concerti. Vivo a Berlino, ma organizzo anche tour per i miei artisti in tutta Europa (qualche volta passano anche per l’Italia).

A Berlino organizzo molti concerti di artisti italiani. Insieme ad Ercole Gentile abbiamo la nostra serie di concerti chiamata BIS! (Berlin Italian Shows).

L’anno scorso abbiamo avuto l’onore di portare a Berlino i CCCP per il loro primi concerti dopo più di 30 anni (ed è finito su letteralmente tutti i giornali italiani – qui Repubblica, Corriere della Sera, Rolling Stone) ma abbiamo anche organizzato i Verdena, Liberato, Calcutta. Adesso stiamo per portare a Berlino Brunori Sas, La Nina, Daniela Pes e tanti altri.

Questi sono i miei concerti più grandi, ma oltre a BIS! ho anche la “mia” brighter agency con cui lavoro con artisti internazionali, alcuni di base a Berlino, altri arrivano da tutto il mondo (America, Australia, Islanda… solo per dire i posti più lontani). Questi sono di solito concerti molto più piccoli e rischiosi (sia perché i costi per locali e personali si stanno alzando di molto, sia perché i margini di guadagno sono molto stretti).

Per me è però importante investire anche in questo tipo di concerti perché:

  • con il tempo questi artisti con cui sto collaborando suoneranno in locali più grandi;
  • sono un modo per iniziare relazioni lavorative con altri agenti del settore (sopratutto agenti di base in Inghilterra, che è ancora il centro della musica da questa parte dell’oceano);
  • i concerti italiani da soli non sono abbastanza per coprire tutti i miei costi personali e sono imprevedibili (a volte abbiamo abbastanza concerti medio-grandi in una stagione, ma ci sono anche mesi con concerti molto più piccoli o con nessun concerto);
  • per coprire tutti mi miei costi lavoro ancora ad un paio di progetti che vorrei abbandonare per concentrarmi solo sui miei progetti

Allo stesso tempo ci sono molti fattori che stanno complicando le cose. I costi ovviamente si stanno alzando per tutti e Berlino è ancora povera e sexy, gli affitti sono uno dei problemi principali, ci sono stati grossi tagli alla cultura lo scorso anno (grazie, CDU!) e tante altre cose che fanno sì che la gente abbia pochi soldi da spendere in attività culturali, che però sono importantissime!

Città come Berlino sono importantissime. Questa è ancora una città relativamente economica e piena di cose da fare. Magari l’avete apprezzata voi stessi se siete venuti qui in vacanza, ma sicuramente avrete letto un libro, visto un film o ascoltato della musica che è collegata a questi luoghi.

E sono sicura che aiutare la cultura in ogni luogo fa bene alla cultura in generale 🙂

Sulla pagina di Patreon ho spiegato in inglese in dettaglio cosa significa il vostro supporto, ma qui ancora una volta:

  • ogni mese spedirò un poster creato ogni mese da un’artista differente. Sopra ci sono i concerti che organizzo, ma è anche possibile usarlo come calendario;
  • anche il supporto più piccolo (poco più di 3 € al mese) mi aiuta a coprire i costi;
  • supporti con importi più alti mi aiuteranno a organizzare più concerti (soprattutto quelli più piccoli e intimi), tenere il costo del biglietto basso, pagare di più gli artisti, avere più collaborazioni (ad esempio con designer e fotografi), organizzare eventi speciali.
