Getting to know… Mleko
Call them art-punk, call them post-everything, call them metalified neo-folk noise wizards with a brass fetish. Get to know Mleko before their show at Schokoladen on October 21!
Tell us the best venue in the city you live in/grew up in
The White Hotel – Sadly, this incredible venue is closing at the end of the year. They are a haven for weird underground music in an ex MOT garage (there is a bar in the old service pit). We played there in November 2025 with Man/Woman/Chainsaw and will return in November this year for a headline show before the venue closes down. We love it for its industrial/DIY atmosphere and the incredible artists that it attracts.
What weird items do you always bring on tour?
Our Gubs – Our Gubs are little crocheted creatures that live on our instruments. They go everywhere with us and bring us luck. They also act as a handy gimmick for the press to talk about.
Do you prefer small shows or big shows?
We generally prefer small, intimate venues where you are super connected to the audience. It’s really clear when people are feeling the music, and there’s generally more of a buzz in the room when people feel they have experienced something rare or at the start of a journey. People also feel they have to laugh at Ed’s jokes or it’s too awkward.
What are your 3 favorite albums of all times?

Do you write music or lyrics first?
The instrumental always seems to come first, and it proves quite frustrating for Ed when we keep changing it after he’s spent hours toiling away at lyrics. It tends to work better for us if we experience a feeling/emotion from the instrumental parts and write lyrics around that rather than writing our instrumental parts with the intention of creating a certain feeling.
